Self Care In Color Virtual Retreat

Self Care Free Association

Today is National Women’s Health Day! I feel that this is a tremendously important topic, because women are like Maseratis. We are high-output, high-performance machines, and we need to take care of ourselves if we’re going to continue to run at capacity.

For that reason, I wanted to take the opportunity to feature Graeme Seabrook’s Self Care In Color, a virtual online retreat created for Black femmes to learn to thrive by incorporating self care into their daily lives. Women, particularly women of color, have been taught to grin and bear it when it comes to their pain and their struggles. It’s never our time to break down, to be supported, to need anything. Self Care In Color challenges those narratives and the destructive way of thinking born from those beliefs. The website describes the retreat by saying:

Black women and femmes carry the emotional load for our community. We are the rock. We are the linchpin that holds everything together. And far too many of us are suffering. We give, we sacrifice, we create, we build, we work, and we do it all without asking for anything in return. That stops now. Our goal is to increase the health and wellness of our community and to give our sisters a place where it is safe to focus on our wants and needs. The Self-Care In Color Virtual Retreat will give us time every day to focus on what we need so that we can thrive instead of simply surviving.

The event takes place from October 16th to October 22nd and features talks on religion, beauty, spirituality, self care and mental health. There are four different ticket levels, and yes, one of them is free. Offering a complimentary tier was a conscious choice, Graeme stresses. “I want to get this to as many women as possible.”

Register for the retreat here and comment below so that we can support each other as we grow!
